Well, I'm at the boat and waiting for Irene. I've secured everything the best I can and now it's just wait and see. So far only 18 mph winds and bands of heavy rain at times.

It's ~ 16:00 Fri., and in Little Creek, Norfolk, Va., I, too, have taken enclosure and sails down and secured the boat as well as possible.

To Haul or not to Haul?
Hauled out the Hunter 39 on Wednesday. Now I'm wondering if it might be safer double-lined at the marina (floating docks). The storm surge could flood the storage area. Any opinions? Chris L. Bolero (H=-39)

I'm back lost commo with my android. hooked up my laptop. 45 mph top now not bad. main part won't hit till morning. hope the tide cooperates. piilings getting shorter but should be finished with flood we will see.
Exactly! And since this is my first time, I know I don't know a lot about these kinds of storms. But obviously, we just have to let go and hope, right?
I guess that the good news is that the wind field and max winds had decreased a lot from the reported highs day -before-yesterday. Looking at the Morehead City (where it came ashore) windspeeds, the highest were gusts into the 68 knot range.. certainly not trivial, but much less than forecast. I believe you guys up east have been given a "preparation opportunity" .. Ya still have some wind to endure, but it looks to be decreasing a good bit.. Good Luck, yall.
Waiting here in Atlantic City, doubled up, added springs and battened down, worst part is waiting it out, AC is closed down, no access into town until after things pass,
a little relieved for all ( especially NC ) that the winds area little less. Hoping the tidal surge is not extreme.

Winds shifted around and we are just catching the backside as it moves out of here. Just about done with it here but you guys around Nags Head and Newbern, Oriental area are probably catching heck now. Good luck everyone.
Doubled up and pulled the main. I sure like floating docks. Tide shouldn't cause them to overtop the posts. That would be bad.

We have sat out even summer storms on floating docks and if the local protection is not adequate, the docks can develop severe motion and exacerbate the situation, including adding additional chafe to the lines. In addition, if the hardware comes loose that connects to the pilings, the docks and the boats float away. After 14 named storms and who knows how many local storms, floating docks are our least favorite and IMO the most vulnerable. But if that is all you have, be sure and secure the boat to the nearest pilings and not the docks. Chcuk
