hi i just bought a 1980 oday 23 it does not have any of the manuals for it.
is there anyone that could e-mail me these. the rigging was removed from the mast and im not sure how it was set. i have a 1974 oday 20 but i'm not sure is its rigging is the same way. this also 3rd year sailing so still have much to learn.

The "manual" for the Mark II (1979-1985) Oday 23 is a double-sided sheet of legal size paper. I have it at home somewhere, and if I remember, I will upload it to this site. In the meantime, if you have a specific question about the rigging, I would be happy to offer my humble opinion.

Well, I forgot all about looking for the "manual" this weekend. Sorry about that. Will try to remember again. Any questions that come to mind after your visit?

hey i dont need it any longer i found someone with a manual 10 pages or so for the oday 22 and 23. its shows everything i needed to know about the rigging. if you need it would be happy to forward it or anyone else that needs it.
i just managed to clean out the interior of the boat this past weekend and found all the rigging. the transom chainplate(where the backstay connects) is broke. do i have to crawl between the cockpit and hull to change it? i assume its held in place screws that have nuts on the inside.

I would love to see that manual. Please send it to mstern at snet dot net. And yes, if I recall correctly, the transom chainplate is thru bolted. On my boat, the only access would be thru the port storage locker. You would have to get enough of your body inside to be able to reach the middle (actually, its off center to starboard) of the upper part of the transom. Not easy. At all. Even if you can't reach the bolts, you should be able to see enough to verify that the chainplate is thru bolted. Assuming you can verify that, then the other option is to cut a new port in the cockpit to access those bolts. The one thing I don't know is how easy it will be to remove the broken chainplate. I assume Oday put lots of sealant in there, and I don't know if it was a sealant/adhesive. The other issue is that the chainplate on my boat seems to go right thru the hull/deck joint; if the plate is a straight piece of metal that goes thru slots in the joint, then you should be able to pull it straight out. However, if the piece bends around the joint, then it will be well nigh impossible to pull out. It doesn't make sense to me to have an unfixable component, but you never know.

hi guys,

its been a while since i posted. i did manage to crawl into the bottom of the boat to change that backstay chainplate. then after reading some of the other post i resealed all the thru hulls whhich turned out to be a good idea because as i was checking the drain for the sink it broke in half as i was pulling the hose off of it and then cockpit both ends of the hose on the cockpit drain were loose. i would also tell everyone to check the anchor locker drain whoever had repaired the one in this boat did a horrable job to the point that all the wood backing the u bolt literally turned to mud.
i happy to say she is at the dock atm and hopefully the mast will be up this weekend.

Hi there! I just got an O'Day 23 from my 83 yr old Dad. Been doing repairs and would really like a copy if this manual. Please consider emailing a copy to me if it's scannable, if not fax maybe? I'm trying to seal leaks in the boat. Are the hand rails and toe rails likely the culprits? Already did a hull repair where the lifeline pole bolts to the starboard deck by the front of the cabin. I used oak block and bondo glass. Sanded and painted with epoxy. Any suggestions for sealing these leaks. Boat gets launched next week

I would greatly appreciate it if you could email me the manual as well because I have just purchased an 83 O'Day 23 and I will need the manual to sort things out.

I uploaded the manual (not the brochure) to this website. Once it gets past the moderators, you should be able to download it from the "Resources" tab; choose "downloads" and look under Oday.

Don't get stuck in that small opening guys. It's easier to install an 8"
Beckson Deck plate in the center of the inside transom. That way, you can have access to your gudgions, self bailing cockpit hose, and electric wire for your stern light anytime you need it.
