Too busy on "Ask All Sailors", pretending we own a keelboat. ;)

I was out prepping for a launch tomorrow. Thunderstorm blew up. My boat has been on the trailer and mostly neglected for 5 years. Ive put somewhere between $500- $1000 in it in the last two weeks and it still isn't exactly where I'd like it to be. The rent on my slip begins tomorrow and I want to finish the things I can't do very easily once it's in the water, such as wax the hull which I just finished rather quickly as the weather was approaching. It looks like the weather has passed. I can get back out and touch up.

Refurbishing swing keel. Down to last coat of bottom paint. Boat prepped for bottom paint. All standing rigging deck hardware inspected/cleaned/rebedded. Rebuild battery box, finish bottom, put keel back on boat, shine her up a little... Dying to get her back in the water. Getting close. Work kicking my tail. Too tired to do the things I WANT to do! Ha.

Got an inch of snow last night. Winter refuses to let go of Mn for now. More time for projects tho. That is, when it's civil enough to go out and work...

Would love to be able to say, "I'm not here b/c I'm sailing!!"

Preparing for season #5 with our boat. She's not the prettiest gal at the dance, but at this point she sails well, nothing leaks, nothing's broke, or jury-rigged... The brightwork could use a sand and a recoat, and there's always a spot that needs rewaxing.

We have projects in mind, but nothing that requires delaying launch or stops us from sailing :D

Ok, the trailer could really stand being sandblasted and painted.

I'm the temporary owner of two boats. Neither of which is IN the water.

The 21' is on her trailer here at the house because I've got landlubber things to do this weekend. The 37' is on the hard because she's not quite ready for open water yet. My living room looks like a sailboat flea market right now with all the stuff that needs to go back into her. Soon. Hopefully soon.

Been working on getting ready for launch. Took everything I could get off the cabin top off, then used Maine Sail's approach and filled with epoxy. Started redrilling the holes today but the rain started coming down hard and a leak in the 3 year old tarp kept dripping on my head. Hoping to get the boat in the water next Friday or Saturday.

On the flip side from our northern counter parts, our in-water season oct 1st-June1st winds down soon as the temps consistently broil towards 90+ every day so we'll soon be back on the trailer and in the shade of our shop. Maybe we'll actually pull it somewhere cooler than the daily broiling rack we get down here until October.

I've been thinking about a longer road trip. Any recommended favorite sailing spots for a part time trailer boat, mostly cruising guy who'd like a slightly cooler clime, room to run and some fresh/salt water sailing within 800-1000mi of Tampa/Sarasota? Charleston, Norfolk, a favorite big lake somewhere, Tennessee, Arknasas? I might trailer into one spot, make a long run and pick it up on the other end too. Any input would be good.

Sadly, with the price of fuel it might be cheaper and much simpler to just fly to Seattle, Michigan or Maine and charter for few days than pull our 260 further than 500mi.

Ignore my earlier rant about 1 inch of snow. Forecast for Tuesday into Wednesday is 3-9 inches!! This is nuts! Can't even work outside in that junk....and my grass now needs cutting.....

I thought it was bad here! Ice out on most of the ponds last week. It was about 40 degrees on Friday, but snow in the forecast is really depressing. We could get some too. My oldest boy was born on April 27. On April 28 we got 10 inches. So, it's all up in the air.

I launched on Saturday. I would have preferred to get her in the water back in March when the cool spring-like weather is here. Mother Nature cooperated with a cold front on Friday that brought some breeze and cool (dare I say chilly) temps. My 8hp 2 cycle was giving me trouble at the launch. It would start, but would kill as I tried to rev it. Ran OK in the driveway the day before. I replaced the fuel filter with a standard lawnmower type that was slightly larger. The filter fits into a small area and the larger filter caused the fuel line under the cowl to bend (didn't appear kinked) and restrict flow. A slight adjustment and it was purring. Luckily for me that it wasn't Saturday when stores were open or I might have just bought a new one. It was late afternoon by the time I got out there and wasn't going to 'shakedown' things after dark since it had been on the trailer for so long. We sailed with just the main 2 miles or so to the marina and pulled in just after dark. Beautiful sunset and huge full moon made me wonder how I let it sit on the trailer for such a long time. Now I'm on-call for a week and unable to go out.
