:worthless:

The H-49 is not unique as to how its GPS antenna is mounted. Depends on WHO installed the GPS.

Supply a few pictures of the GPS and its manufacturer and approximate age and we'll tell you how it's installed. Otherwise, you're on your own.

Hey Boiler... Interesting name. Either a Navy Black shoe or a Steam Fitter? Or perhaps you like crawdads in the pot...
Anyway... The GPS antenna is an add on item not part of the original manufacturer equipment. There are a limited number of designs. Some GPS antenna are inside the MFD of the Chart Plotter.

Good reason to post a picture so that we might be able to give you an idea.

A common technique is to screw the unit to a surface. Some installers choose to use an adhesive. Depends on the design and the installer.

Assuming it is Raymarine.

I replaced the original chart plotters with Axioms. I will be installing AIS in the near future and thought that would be the ideal place for its GPS antenna.

Most marine electronics manufacturers keep copies of old installation guides and manuals on their website. I would suggest visiting the manufacturer's site and reading the manual.

Already have. Raymarine (I believe it is a Raymarine 125) bolted the flush mount through the mounting surface with washers and nuts on the backside. There are no penetrations but the one for the cable. So, I am head scratching and asking the bigger brain.

Have you tried twisting the top and removing it? Have you tried removing the nuts?

There are no nuts to remove, thus my quandary. And I wanted to ask the group before I try to do anything else for fear of damage.

Now I'm confused. First you say there are nuts and washers and then you say they are no nuts to remove. These seem to be mutually exclusive statements. Can you please clarify?

I used fishing line to cut through the adhesive. Then I pried it off with a putty knife. There are no screws. There is a small hole in the deck for the wires and that's it. I replaced the battery in my unit and had to remove it to do this. It works fine now.

The nuts and washers only keep the bottom and top of the unit together. They don't bolt the unit to the deck. You need to remove the whole unit to unscrew these bolts and gain access to the inside where you can change the internal battery. Use the fishing line. You'll be able to feel the adhesive give way as you saw it back and forth. That way you know you’re not cutting through anything important. Stop when you get close to the center and adjust your angle. You don't want to saw through the wires. I used 80 or 100 pound test.

I'm thoroughly confused by the OP releasing small bits of information on a need to know only basis. The disclosure of this information in your first post would have saved a lot of back and forth if you had initially described the antenna as a Raymarine 125, described that you had looked below deck at the installation, described what you had seen below deck, and a few other vital details which you failed to relay and kept everyone guessing.

I'm sure you've seen this installation page in the Raymarine manual. Yours does not appear to have been properly installed. As described in posts #10 and #11, @Georgedoyle had the same unapproved installation which requires the sealant/adhesive to be cut away with fishing line.

A scraper blade on an oscillating tool is quicker and easier. It will even cut through 5200.
