is that an inline blower to evacuate the engine room?
Yes it is. Here's the other end:

Engine room is a bit of a misnomer. "Nike shoe box" is a more accurate term:

The engine sits under there with only an inch or so clearance all around.

Nice to heat the boat too, on chilly night cruising up there!

Down here, put the discharge heat outside the boat.:pimp:
Jim...
That is an awesome idea, we have this vent fan already on the boat but it vents outside, never though of adding a duct section with a splitter, to vent in or out, ah get the pen out add another item to the list.

But like all hypotheses .......................... WHY THE ^%$&*#@! HELL DO IT  ? ? ? ?
Pure speculation but maybe the old mounting bolt holes were rotted out. Instead of fixing it however may have been properly they just moved the mounts down the stringers a few inches and cut the prop shaft to fit. A big stretch I know but stranger things have happened (maybe)?

My questions for the original poster are, does it seem to work? Is there any odd vibration? Did he have a prepurchase survey and if so what did it say, if anything, about it.

Hello skipperclaud,

Is there an Allen set screw in the threaded hole in the connection to the prop shaft? (pic #2) There should be some type of fastener, I think. One is visible in the first picture. Also, a stainless steel wire should go through a hole drilled in the square top of that fastener to prevent it from backing out. (Been there, had that happen!) There appears to be a thin wire through one of the bolts in the flange (correct name?) to the transmission itself. Not clear how or to what it is connected.

All of that can be checked and fastened correctly when the other work is done and the engine aligned with the shaft and hull tube.
Thank you for your reply. Yes that part of my boat is very weird. There is no wire and the other bolt is missing..
the million dollar question is. Why they installed it so low that they had to cut the fiberglass to make room.
thank you for the tip, I will go now to check!

Nothing was told by the surveyor. To Be honest I don’t even know he have realized it.
But you have a good point.
I might remove all that engine, transmission and redo it properly.
but there is no vibration in1500 rpm up. Kinda normal! I guess...

You sort of had to be there to get the full picture.

The discharge hose from the fan had been removed to facilitate whatever I was doing at the time. Here the discharge hose is attached:

@skipperclaud , could you please inspect the two engine mounting stringers for any unused holes and take photos if possible. Also if you can see how close the rubber cushion mounts:

are sitting to the ends of the two stringers would also be helpful.

I'm afraid I've become obsessed with this violation of the senses and won't be able to sleep until it's been put to rest :banghead:.

The Dripless Box is not original equipment for the 2001 h320. We do not know what was done during the installation. It seems the transmission coupler is sitting about 3 inches back from where it should be positioned, but it could be the angle of the photos. Don't know when you purchased the boat or if a recent survey was conducted, but if it was, check and see if the issue was mentioned and perhaps bring the surveyor back to look at it. They have Errors and Omissions insurance coverage which could help with the costs of any repairs in case he missed a fault here. Are there any drive train vibrations or undue knocks ? Don't go by what the motor mounts look as they could look new and the rubber be detached, split or simply soft. The best test for the motor mounts is to see how they perform. Check for any modifications around the seat of the motor mounts and check and see if the correct ones were installed. Could it be a fault during the manufacturing process, yes seems the workers tend to creatively fix problems that arise with or without the knowledge of the Company. In any instance the exposed wood should be repaired; allowed to dry, bathed in epoxy and glassed over.
