No excuses, you have little to do.

I typed SAIL in "searching all my files". This was one from 2015. I instantly remember why I took it. Our kids used to make these buoy boats on beaches we've visited.

I love this simple buoy pond sailer because it proves (to me) that 99% of the mechanics of "sailing" are ancient and organic. Mystical, stone age simple.

Every single one that was hacked together on a remote beach - after a little tweaking, just sailed away.

We were sailing in the North Carolina Outer Banks and came across this little bit of salt marsh beach. The approach was very shallow so we had to anchor out quite a bit and I floated the coolers and chairs to shore for a picnic ... full belly, now it is time for a nap.

When I visited Hawai'i during the 2018 eruption I was struck by how unlike most natural disasters, this was a disaster in slow motion. Fast forward 18 months and we are in a global natural disaster in slow motion. For many residents in Puna, the difficulty was in the waiting for the unknown, when would the lava flow, when would it arrive, when will this be over? It is much the same for C-19, where will it strike, when will strike, when can we get back to business as usual?

Each time I visit Kilauea and Volcano National Park I struck by the power, the beauty, and the force of the mountain. And struck by life that is found in an otherwise desolate land.

And by the power of the sea.

For me, sailboats underway represent adventure, and sailboats at rest represent possibilities. I hope that in this difficult time, we focus on the possibilities - to help each other, to learn, and to become better.

Stay safe everyone.
