I've always pronounced it JEN'-oh-uh, but heard it the other way too. Is one more correct than the other?

Gen-oh-a unless you are from Wisconsin where they have a village named Jen NOH a. I heard a guy refer to Washington the other day as Warsh-ing-don. He don’t get out much.

The famous Swedish sailor and shipowner Sven Salén (1890–1969) first used the genoa on his 6 m R-yacht May-Be by the 1926 in Coppa di Terreno in Genoa, hence the name.
Genoa Italy is pronounced the first way
Google makes me feel smart :p

I had a friend in England who had never been in the US. Kept talk about the Pot O Mac near Washington. Took me a while to figure that one out.

JEN'-oh-uh, here. My friends from the UK say, "je-NOH'-uh. So does that mean -as they were sailing first- JEN-oh-uh is slang?

the swede dude did not call it that. he was the first to use an overlaping head sail. he won big time. everone that noticed went back to their sail maker and said ' build me one of those "genoa" jibs'. it was slang, so to speak. they are still all jibs

First time I heard je-NOH'-uh after 30 years of sailing was in the Delos videos. At the time I assumed it was just them not knowing the pronunciation, but evidently it's not wrong.
