I have a trailer sailer so I don't have much space to mount it

Many of us use a folding fixture to hold them in the companionway. Some are factory others, like mine, home made.

Home made swing out here as well. Spring loaded hinge so I can push it out of the way when I go below.

Fred,
I got it from Amazon
https://www.amazon.com/Mount--MI-40...sr=8-18&keywords=single+arm+lcd+tv+wall+mount

I had to modify it a bit to work the way I wanted. I added a 1" wide, 1/2" thick aluminum bar to replace the last section. I made a trail run piece from wood to make sure that is what I wanted then remade it out of the aluminum. That is the piece that the chart plotter is mounted to. I had to make a wedge to mount the base to so that when the chart plotter is rotated out into the opening it is vertical. I liked this mount because it has friction locks on the arm sections and the end piece will rotate which allows us to position the chart plotter in the correct alignment for best viewing.
So far it has worked great for less than 30 bucks total. The chart plotter will even receive a signal through the pop top tent cover I made which really surprised me.
I found out yesterday that we can hear the alarm when it goes off for shallow depth. I had it set for 6 feet and sure enough we could hear it when it went off. Simply press the enter button to silence the alarm.

If you want ready built, try GPSCity.com. They have a full line of ram mounts to mount practically anything. I called, told them what I wanted to do and they put together a parts list for me to review. Then I ordered it on line.
More $ than home built but works well. Swings in and out plus swivels.

definitely like the diy route, I have som nice maple left over from another project, just looking at different mounting styles, I do like the simplicity of Tom's unit, and I like Bud's idea to have the radio on the board as well, but I'd like to have it so I can use it inside as well, keep your ideas coming, it's helping me a lot

do you have a better pic?
Fred1diver,

Here are a couple pics. Was real easy to make. Blasted it out the night before a trip. The main pivot joint is comprised of a knob - bolt and cabinet flush mount fitting recessed in to the ply base. That way I can add tension to the joint to stiffen it up ans eliminate any swing. My Lowrance mount swivels and tilts so it is perfect. Base block is mounted to the companion way side.
Second pic, interior shot was a classic. Guys weekend out of Westport. Dingied to dinner over a mile to the Back Eddie restaurant. It was early in the season and we didn't realize how far we had traveled from our anchored and unlit (mistake) boat. Dark and stormies did not help. Long and short of it we did finally find the boat and didn't have to resort to sleeping on the beach!! Near mutiny!!

One other note on my install, it is a bit more complex that some. I have AIS running into my GPS.

Mounted ours on the life line...

... and really like it there as it can be slid ahead and seen by the person handling the sails or back for the person on the tiller and it is right in you face where it is easy to see.

The boat came with the one above installed by the companionway but it was hard for the person on the tiller to see in a lot of different light conditions and just too far away.

More on mounting the one on the lifeline here....

so this the way I went for my fish finder/chartplotter, flush mount, next time when I make new crib boards out of plexi I'll lower the unit about an inch and make three boards instead of two, that way it'll be easier to get in nd out of the cabin

I'm modifying my setup, I dont like to have to climb over my board to get in and out, so I'm making a board similar to budgates model, pics when I finish the project
