Email notifications?

I noticed recently that Cruisers Forum is sending a daily email containing the new topics posted in the past 24 hours.

That seems like it might be a nice thing for some folks.

Is that of interest to you? You'd be able to easily subscribe and unsubscribe from the email itself, so no problem getting stuck with a bunch of unwanted emails.

Something you want, or is that a resounding "meh...?"

I'm here using the "Show All Topics..." link, don't need it, but thanks for asking. I generally dislike all those email notifications. If I'm interested, I'm here anyway.

i agree with Stu... i do use the same type of email notification from other "groups" that dont have a website as nice as this one, but there is always so much unwanted stuff included that i find I dump them more often than I read them....

i would also like to say that since I traded in my motorola android smart phone for a samsung GS5 the SBO app runs so much better with more options available on the screen... the app must not have been compatible with the motorola....

Thanks for such a great website!!!:D

I would likeLy do the same thing I do when receiving the Cruisers forum email -delete it. The way you have his forum designed greatly facilitates access to everything as it is. For my purpose, an email would be redundant.

I, for one, like getting the list of new topics from the Cruisers Forum in my email. Having the option to turn it on and off should make it a non issue for those who don't want it.

i think its a good idea to get it and if you don't like it just turn it off

there are times when i can't just check in when i would like so it would be nice to have a heads up

now from a budget stand point if it is going to cost you more to provide it then fugetaboutit..you do so much now and at no charge to us

I usually check the site more than once a day so it is something that I would want to turn off..

Not me either. I check this site maybe ten times before I ever go through looking at emails.

Another very fine site I use occasionally does that, and I am SUPER glad I have it listed in another email account. I might make an insignificant comment on the thread at the time, and end up with fifteen emails about it. Grateful for mass deleting..

Really not necessary.... My in box gets a routine delete without reading process daily because of all the junk mail

Got it. May not be worth the trouble then.

Just to clarify, you would have to opt-in to get it, there's no way we'd send that to everyone. It would only be available to users who actively choose to receive it.

Thank you for the input!

Nope, I think that's bad marketing. You want them to go check every day to see what's inside. If they already know.... there's no need... less hits, less ad dollars.

Yeah I just check in anyway, wouldn't sign up for the email. This is by far my favorite sailing site.

While most, including myself, would not need the feature day to day, I can see where it would be handy when stuck using a tablet or phone for short periods. I agree with Woodster, if it is not an additional expense to the site, I can't imagine why anyone would want it NOT available to others that would use it. I think it's a great idea, and further evidence of the most excellent job you do as Admin.

Re: Why Not?

"Meh...too" I don't need it. But since it would be an opt/in if wanted you might offer it...but if it was me I'd do it only if no additionals costs are involved. I agree that you shouldn't have to spend more to create that option. Thanks for a great site.

Phil, I look at "current" and scroll down 30 or 40. Does it for me.

I wouldn't mind an e-mail after I posted to a thread to let me know there are new posts. Just once, until I read it again.

A general summary of the day? No I would opt out of that.
