If you look at my post I said it was tooo cold for butyl and I would dig it out in spring. Also 791 is one of the two sealants Carolina supply's for rebuilding port lights."DOW CORNING® 791 SILICONE WEATHERPROOFING SEALANT"
With apologies to Stu:
Do NOT, ever, use SILICONE on your boat. It is a massive WASTE OF MATERIALS. Why would you want a MASSIVE WASTE OF MATERIALS THAT MAKES A MESS OF your chainplates AND ANYTHING ELSE YOU WOULD PUT IT ON?
Pardon the hollering.
There are reasons to use certain silicone products on a sailboat, albeit not many.Ya can't dig silicone out. Ever. Can't be done.
Just trying to keep the convo lighthearted. There's
several other threads talking about why there is
never a reason to use any silicone product on a
sailboat and I agree with that sentiment.
Again, with apologies to Stu:
Your boat, your choice.
Must be nice to have a new boat - mine is over 33 years old, and those chain plates were already full of silicon when I opened them up (either from a PO or Catalina).Ya can't dig silicone out. Ever. Can't be done.
