Beneteau First 38 Lyall Harbour Saturna Island
Sun Gypsy got underway June 1 . As we all know, every place we want to go is always upwind so imagine our surprise when we got 25 miles of wing on wing for our first day of sailing. We tucked into North Cove on Thetis Island for a couple of days of kayaking and relaxing.AD8B76CE-1224-475E-B9E9-B86925E4E4F3.jpeg
After a couple of days and wanting to add a little charge to the batteries we motored over to Wakes Cove at the entrance to Gabriola Passage. Here we found a new (to us) provincial park. With some great trails to walk and surprisingly little wake from passing boats.FED55E16-EB26-4360-B888-80E1BA967C9E.jpegC89B91F6-05D1-4FB7-80CF-6E5041A5BD45.jpeg91208937-320F-4E75-9343-256946713ABB.jpeg

A quick trip around to Silva Bay for fuel and a night then sailed up to New Castle Island. This island park in the middle of Nanaimo is always a favourite stop, especially with kids.
Whiskey-Golf was open and the wind was in the right direction so a quick trip out to Jedediah Island for an overnight hoping for the wind to stay the same for the next day. Unfortunately it turned into a long motor to Comox. This period of calm gave the wind opportunity to change direction. The following week was gale force Northwesterlys. Gave us lots of opportunities for visits with old friends and do a little boat work.
Next on the agenda was Herriot Bay. We normally stay at Taku but a winter storm destroyed all there docks and they are in the process of replacing them.
A slow, comfortable sail up to Beasley Narrows the next day, then into the Octopus Islands and Wiaitt Bay for a few days1DDA5A24-8CEA-4B34-B436-CF57E625740E.jpeg As you can see it was very crowded.
After a couple of days here taking life easy and doing a little kayaking we motored out through Hole-in-the-Wall and into Von Donop.89D4D3CC-983B-4454-995E-82E5CB8CD88D.jpeg Nice quiet anchorage at 6:30 in the morning.
At last it was time to head home. We headed over to Lund as our last marina on the way home.
