I have purchased a 1979 25’ O’Day swing keel. It is in excellent condition but unlike my Catalina 22’ swing keel I see no place to put a zinc plate other than on the fiberglass casing that the keel resides in and I'm not sure that would work. In 44 years the boat has never been in salt water but it will be soon. I have read that the pivot pin is not made of metal so… are zinc plates needed?
I also would like to check the condition of the pivot pin and the release mechanism (the rope on the release mechanism makes me a bit nervous as to the strength of the material) but I see no way to do so. Can anyone advise where to place the zinc plates if needed and how to check the condition of the pivot pin and release system?
