The factory drilled a couple of holes in the front of mine to route the hoses to the water heater. That's how the diesel ended up in my bilge when the screw ring loosened up on the secondary filter. I was amazed that the engine kept running without air being sucked in. It must have been siphoning from the fuel tank. All in all I think I lost under a gallon into the bilge so the bilge pump had not cycled. From then on I keep two absorbent pillows pushed up against the hoses and front of the pan.
