Any comments on a Z Spar in mast roller furling mainsail on a 1996 Catalina 36 Mark II ? The boat is for sale, and in wonderful shape, but should I be wary of a 5 year old in mast main furler? Will the boat be a slug without a roach and battens?
I'm in my first year as owner of a '93 Catalina/Morgan 38 w/Z spar in mast roller furling. I love the convenience. No need to store a mast cover on board. Never have to leave the safety of the cockpit. I suppose you sacrifice some performance but not enough for a cruiser like me to care. I have no problem reaching 8 knots w/o roach, battens, etc. I have seen no leaking. However the previous owner had some which he fixed.
