Maine,
I've been reading a lot about an upgrade I am doing and as always you've been there done that as they say.

Currently I have my Raystar 125 GPS connected to a C70 classic chartplotter via a Seatalk cable and a Standard Horizon GX1600 DCS radio connected via the NMEA 0183.

I purchased a new autopilot Raymarine X5 and p70 set up from Defender and am trying to plan out my wiring.

Question, Can I connect the p70 & Fluxgate directly to the course computer then use a Seatalk2 cable to connect to the C70 chartplotter bypassing the use of the Seatalk ng 5 way connector? Is this wise?

I'm not sure of the best or easiest way to do it. I aslo have a KVH Quartro depth, speed and wind that came with the boat. The wind no longer works but the depth and speed do. I believe these are also NMEA 0183. Can 3 NMEA0183 devices be transmitted using one line? I seem to remember someone telling me that when I installed the C70 back in 2007.

Unfortunately you need to use the SeaTalk ng for the P-70 but once at the computer you can pick up the old SeaTalk to connect the plotter to. If you want to do it at the "pedestal" you will need the SeaTalk to SeaTalk ng converter.

With that many 0183's on a C-70 you would likely need a multiplexer.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean. There is an open SeaTalk 2 connection behind the chartplotter. Can this be run directly to the course computer or do I need a SeaTalk to SeaTalk ng converter?
I don't plan on connecting the speed and depth to the chart plotter as eventually I will replace them but it is possible.
Thanks

No knowledge of your units but No you cannot run three NMEA 183 talkers on one line. you are allowed only one talker per line. you can have as many listeners as you like though.

Yes it can...

My point was that if your P-70 display was in the same pod as the C-70 you would either have to run it all the way to the CC or buy the STNG to ST adapter because the P-70 and ST-70 can't directly connect without the adapter.. In the past you could just jumper an AP display over to ST or ST2 on the plotter and have just one line going to the CC... Hope that made sense...
