Going to sail from Quantico to Tanger Island this weekend, looking for a nice place to anchor overnight. Any recommendations?

Good holding and shelter around Point Lookout. There is a marina on the south side of the inlet, and we have anchored just northeast by them without issue. The marina was also very friendly.

It put us in easy position to head out on the bay. Nomini Bay and Branson Cove (off the Machodoc) I have heard are pretty good too. When I get home this morning I will grab the Cruising Guide to the Chesapeake and double check on points for you as well.

Also both the Yoecomico and the Coan on the south side have some great anchorages. The Yoecomico has services at the Kinsale Marina including a decent restaurant (at least it was a couple of years ago). Hope that you have a following wind. Seems like its either up river or down on the Potomac.

The marina I keep 'Ohana in is there on the Yoecomico. If you are coming down the Potomac be sure to go the extra mile past the "Pancake" buoy before turning in unless it's high tide and watch for fish traps if you cut the corner. At the second green buoy, hang a right and weave back to where you see a bunch of covered slips. I don't know what he would charge to tie up there for a night but he's got basic restrooms. If you bear off to the slight left at that second green buoy Port Kinsale Marina is back there, they have full facilities. If you just want to anchor, take the right and there are nice coves. Watch for oyster boats in the channel but that goes without saying.

I see someone is prepping a Mac 25 to take the slip behind me.

Never ever, ever try to pull a Mac into Fairview Beach Marina on a windy day no matter how bad you think you need gas.

It really is for power boaters, I do not understand why they bolts sticking out of dock.
