wondering what it is about your favourite marina or club to visit, is it at the end of a long passage, is it the racing scene, the admirals fav, honeymoon memory....
does it make the fav list because your club has reciprocating moorage agreements ?

That's an easy question. It's the ale! In order to get a liquor license in a dry township we had to make our own. We have a micro-brewery in the yacht club. Our brewmaster makes the best ales, a dark and a light. The name? Mainsail !

We also have a small but active racing fleet and schedule. Unfortunately for me and my Highlander only for cruisers or racer/cruisers(spinnakers). http://atwoodyc.com/

We sail Lake Michigan, and our favorite marina/harbor is Leland Michigan. It's small (about 70 slips), a municipal facility, and it's designated a harbor of refuge. We visit Leland twice a year, and love every minute in port. The charm includes the marina staff, the camaradarie of the boaters just in for the night or a few days, the proximity to the Manitous, and the town itself. The town of Leland is small, so everything is in walking distance of the marina, there are several decent restaurants, a general merchandise store (no supermarkets), and it's not overrun with yuppy condos yet!

Cheap overnight bearthing, cheap drinks and good food! That would be the Pittsburg Yacht Club in Pittsburg, CA.

The culinary school does their meals, $3-4 drinks and $10 a night for a slip. What else could you want. Oh, did I forget to tell you about the nice people that are members of the club?

There are several other that we have visited and they all seem to like visitors.

I was going to write about my marina, remote but close enough to town, easy access to open water - exit and hang a right. But after reading Ed's comments, think I'll take the micro-brewery.

Union Steamship Co Marina, Bowen Island, B.C., Canada is a local favourite and on the admirals list. The cove is well protected and there are quaint stores nearby. The marina has a small chandlery and a newer, very clean guest area upstairs on the floating building, with a big screen and couch, internet, laundry, showers and toilets. Admiral was impressed. Mens washroom has a porthole so you can ''p'' and peer. Moorage is steep high season and v busy. The Round Bowen Race sounds fun, the marina packed 4 deep that weekend...

Can't beat a brewery on site or culinary school catering, you have it set up nice there with that price...

port st joe marina was awesome. bicycles for provisioning. good locale. friendly
decent rates--1 dollar per foot in off season..isnear to afishing and boat supply store and not far from ace hardware for boat supplies and napa for engine supplies.
next favorite was white city docks-- no fees and no provisioning but lovely place
