I found some water in the area directly behind the bilge. Where is it coming from and what is the best way to fix the problem? There is no mildew, but the wood is wet and discolored.

Water behind bilge

Are you talking about the area under the floorboard just aft the "main" bilge? (There is a long hatch here that can be pulled up - a shallow bilge area that exposes keelbolts). If so, anywhere in the hull that drains to the bilge can also drain into this area and the water gets trapped. Hunter says this is not a problem - I keep mine dried to avoid keelbolt corrosion.

28.5 bilge

Andy, I think you are referring to the bilge area directly forward of the engine bilge. This area is not accessible on the 28.5 unless you take up the whole cabin sole. I drilled a hole from the next, forward bilge (the one with the 4 screws) through the stringer into the "hidden" space. I use a kitchen "baster" with a peice of 1/4" tube attached to drain the area. You have to be careful as there are wire/water pipes running through this space. There have been many suggestions on this site as to where the water comes from????? Hope this helps.
