Hi to everyone reading this post.
I am a new (and happy) owner of a 1975 venture 25' and i have my mainsail hallyard to be replaced.
The problem is i don't know if my venture is a standard or tall rig.
Anyone has an advice to let me know?
Thanks.

Welcome to this forum! I sail my Macgregor/Venture 25 out of Venture Sailing Club in Pointe-Claire so we are almost neighbours. I would simply measure the old halyard and you will also need to take in to account if the halyard is fed back to the cockpit or not.

Phoenix- I just checked through the dimensions of hulls, spars, and sails for the various models of Venture/Macgregor boats and did not find any reference to a tall rig for a 25. I would simply measure the mast from where the boom attaches to the top and back down to the bottom of the mast. If you plan to run your lines to the cockpit, add enough to cover that. That's what I did for my 26S. -Paul

Bon Jour Mon Ami, All V-25 masts are 28 feet tall. You'll need at least 60 ft of halyard or longer if you lead halyard back to cockpit. Tall rig refers to the forestay going to the top of the mast.If your forestay doesn't go all the way to the top of your mast then you have a fractional rig. Unless custom ordered all Venture 25's came out of the factory fractional. I ordered my '76 V-25 masthead rigged which also required a heavier mast extrusion. Standard is S-104, Masthead S-106. Masthead rigging an S-104 can result in disaster i.e. dismasting. Hope this helps. Fair Winds and Full Sails.

thanks guys: Freedom77, Paul Brinkley, Caguy, and Fred.
I will order an halyard for tall rig and if it's too long, it's better than too short !!!
Fred maybe we will meet on the water !!!

I noticed in your picture that you're towing that V25 (and that heavier-than stock but beautiful trailer) behind a 2-door S10 Blazer. How did it handle pulling the boat with that tandem axle on the trailer? Fairly well, or was it a white-knuckle ride?

I have a 4-dr S10 Blazer that I used to pull my '83 M25 home with. My trailer is the factory single-axle trailer with surge brakes, though. My knuckles were white on the way home with it.:)

Honestly, i did'nt liked that experience but certainly because it was the first time i was towing with a vehicle...i never owned any trailer before that. the ZR2 itself reacted well and no problem with the towing just my lack of experience !!!

Don't worry, you'll get used to towing sooner than you think. Just watch your speed with a rig that long and a vehicle with such a short wheelbase---especially around curves and over bumps.;)
