Has anyone removed the plastic door jam on a 376, the door is dragging heavily near the latch. It looks like if the screws were all removed the door jam might split and come off one piece on each side of the bulkhead. Wold like yo know before removing 20 or so screws.

Pictures???

Is it a plastic laminate door? Can you remove the hing pins? Is it the door? Is the door in a bulkhead?

The door is veneered so no trimming the door, need to train opening in bulkhead with the plastic jam removed.

I don't know the detailed rigging of this boat, but the mast support is settling then the door frame might be moving. If the door is dragging, make sure the frame structure is not moving from mast step block settling, compression post problems, compression post support block under the post and under the cabin sole.

The compression post is well back from this bulkhead. The opening is just a little tight just above the door handle on the latch side. Top and bottom are fine just about an inch of the door is tight at that spot.

Randy, What is the “history” here? Did this just happen, or did you just get the boat, or?

If there isn’t a door frame, what is the “plastic” jamb? Just the edge of the particle board partition/bulkhead?

We bought the boat in January, the door jam is plastic and looks like it would be two loops one on each side of the bulkhead ( hope it's plywood) that when many screws are removed would come off the bulkhead. It is just not a clean close, you have to give a little push for it to close, not a problem but not as easy as it should be.
Tha boat is sound and the contact point is not from stress, could have always been this way. Other owners may not have been bothered by this.

Randy. If you have not yet noticed, your chatting with a J/Boat, a Beneteau, and now a Cal boat owners. All of us have dealt with boat issues and can provide support, but only you have eyes on the issue. If you take pictures you might get additional information from others that have experienced similar issues. As was suggested compression posts can and have caused doors to stick. Now you have added it is not the top or bottom of the door (a common area of problems) but an area near the latch.

Might I suggest you take a few pictures of the problem and post them here. An idea might be forth coming based on what can be seen about the issue.

Oh and congrats on the new to you boat.

Also..... note where the shrouds are located..... to each side of the issue, do you have a baby stay above this areagv? All can contribute to pinching the hull. Also if it’s a keel stepped mast the deck stiffener might not be tight enough when rig was tightened or maybe too tight. Have to get a relation to forces that are applying pressure on the hull. If you were on the hard with mast down over the winter..... did door close no problem?? I would not do any disassembly until you sorted these things out first. Pictures worth a thousand words here..... Sherlock holms time

Good luck
