Checking out your pictures of all your great upgrades that should have been done at the factory, and noticed an upgrade that caught my attention ....your stainless turnbuckle covers (cannot tell you what boat it is but it is green and white) they are cleaner, more inished look, did you fab. or buy them either way , I would need 6 for an '88 C-34 , they are nicer than the PVC ones the PO used. I've put too much work into her to leave this negelected . Your work / postings are how things should be either if they float or fly . Either way if you could help me to obtain some of these it would be helpful.

Regards and Thanks Again,
Kevin

Those are made by Garhauer and come on some Mark II Catalinas. Regular open body turnbuckels are just fine and really don't need covers at all.

If that was your question...

As Stu said, I have them on my MKII C36. I don't know for sure, but I doubt you could 'retrofit' them to a standard, open body turnbuckle. Mine turnbuckles are unchromed bronze, and more or less cylindrical in shape, with a lengthwise slot. The stainless cover fits right pretty tightly over this cylindrical shape which has as plastic stop on the bottom and top to hold the cover in place. All of the components seem to be designed to work together, not sure they would work on a more traditional turnbuckle.

The tubular turnbuckle covers came stock on my Catalina 310. It's important to lift them up and flush them out occasionally. It's amazing how much dirt, salt, etc. gets trapped inside them.

Which is a good reason to not use them at all. Same for those covers that go over the shrouds or any other SS wire.:naughty:

The covers are nice to have as they don't catch on any thing near as easy as an uncovered turnbuckle.... but as ron & tom are saying, you gotta open up and take a look to make sure no rust going on under the cover.... they are easy to look past without seeing whats going on...
