After a number of years of sailing off a mooring with my 1973 O’Day 22’ (shoal keel) I am thinking about buying a trailer now that my kids are old enough to help out. It would be used for short trips around the RI area. Can anyone share some advice on brands or sources in New England? My first choice would be used, given the age of the boat. Thanks

Hello, I would try to find the same type of boat with a trailer, and if you did not want the boat you could donate it, or sell it with out the trailer. You would have a trailer to fit your boat, at a resonable cost, and a tax write off, or some extra cash in your pocket. I ride past an O'day 22, on it's trailer about once a week. I'll see if it's for sale, if you like. It's been sitting there for about three years or so, and if it sits there much longer, it would only be worth buying it for the trailer. So they are out there. Great idea, the donate part never occurred to me - I didn’t want to get stuck with another boat. If you have a minute to check it out I would appreciate it. After getting some prices on new trailers this might be the way to go.

Talk about buy and donate,, There is a powerboat forum I frequent and a guy form Michigan took his truck and trailer to the east coast where he bought a boat cheap on e-Bay but no trailer. When he got there he took a chain saw and cut everything out of the boat that he wanted as if he was slicing up an orange took what was left to the local dump and drove back home with his parts. Maybe I can find this guy? naaaw He probably doesn't know how to sail.
