I have a 1985 Hunter 31 with a Stream Stay Roller Furling system. Does anyone know who the manufacturer is and how to contact them about parts. Was this type of system used on any othere Hunters?
I think I've heard of it. Made by a company called Hyde, but I don't know anymore. If you do an Internet search on Google.com, dogpile.com, alltheweb.com, etc., you will find hits from various boat adds and articles. One of these might lead further. Hope this helps.
I think Stream Stay was OE on many older Hunters. My H37C, 1979 vintage, has the furler. I have the maintenance doc, used it this Spring to disassemble and lubricate the bearings in the drum and the head roller. It's worked fine all season. eschenck@ezo.net
I had one on my Hunter 27 and it never worked satisfactorily. I did find a guy up in the Northeast that was trying to resurrect the company. I bought a new feeder and foil section from him. I may still have his name and number somewhere. However, it didn't solve the binding problem. Later that summer it chewed through the forestay at the top of the mast and dropped the whole thing on the foredeck just barely missing my son and punching holes in my headsail. I threw it in the trash and replaced it with a Harken. Mike
The assets of the company that made Stream Stay were bought by Rig - Rite, Inc. www.rigrite.com. They sell replacement parts for that and a number of other obsolete makers including Kenyon Masts.
I have one of these on my H45 - I HATE it, frankly. It's prone to jamming, tough to work with, and miserable to overhaul. I've overhauled it 3 times now, without any noticible improvement. As soon as I get some extra $$$ (like 5K or so) it's going in the trash. I wouldn't waste money trying to fix yours if I were you, unless you have no other choice.MC
