Did not want to step on the previous holding tank inquiry, so I will ask simular question on a Beneteua Oceanis 400. Actually would like to know where the aft holding tank is located in a three cabin model. My boat had no holding tanks when I bought it, as it was in BVI. I have installed a LectraSan in the forward head, but need to install a holding tank in the aft to make it "legal" in the Keys.I have continued to look at boats for sale in hopes of seeing images showing where Beneteau located the holding tank, but no luck.

Kerry, can't you just fit it into the bilge.

A 40 foot boat aught to have room for a 20 holding tank in the bilge.

I wouldn't put it in the bilge

Bilge is ok for water or fuel tanks, but not for waste tanks because that location requires a vent line that's too long and has too many bends in it provide enough ventilation to keep the tank aerobic...and aerobic is the key to eliminating odor. A bilge location also usually means longe than ideal hose from the toilet to the tank and from the tank to the deck pumpout fitting. And the longer the hoses, the more potential for odor permeated hoses. See my reply to the other thread.

Bilge

Actually, the bilge compartments are not to deep anyway. I am thinking of putting one in the curved space beside the head and sink. I saw one shot on a 40 like mine that looked like the space was closed in, and maybe had a holding tank. Hate to put it there because it will make what is already a small head even smaller.
