My Sherwood seawater pump, model No. H5, started leaking. I replaced it with my spare. All good now.
In removing the plate on the pump, I find the impeller and a neoprene ring, all looks OK inside. There are stains around the holes at the shaft.

How did the leak develop, from where? Can I fix or should I send it to Depco?

Thnx

The "lip" seal that is behind the impeller is the problem.. Item #6 in this drawing from Sherwood.;

Pretty easy to change out but if you're not familiar with these things, might be good to take it to a good small machine shop . They can match the seal (usually are normal parts, easily available) and change it out .. Depending on how old it is, you may want to change out the sealed ball bearings (items #4, again a standard part) and of course the impeller, item #14..

Good info from Kloudie

The only thing I would add. If you have the pump apart to change the seal, I would change that bearing, whether it needs it or not. Your only talking about an extra few bucks. If the seal is leaking, it's a good possibility there is a little bit of slop in the bearing.

I'll get it looked at by Depco, they'll do what's necessary. Beyond what I want to mess with.

Thanks
