I'm going to replace the rope to wire halyards with sta-setX, does anyone know if the sheaves at mast head are large enough to use 7/16 line?? Mike #169

CAT 38 Sheaves

I'm thinking of doing the same replacement, but maybe not as large a size line...but does the sheave have a groove for the wire like other boats I have had. I've only had this 38 a short time, and with back problems haven't gone up the stick yet.

7/16 worked Fine

Rodney thanks they fit fine, Keith if u go smaller it would work, but to get the 110' that it needs WM only sells it prefab in 7/16's and that is what was recommended anyhow.. Mike

Conversion to all rope halyards

Mike, I just had the mast replaced and elected to upgrade to all-rope halyards. The mast manufacturer (LeFiell) told me that the sheaves are different and that the groved versions were not good for all-rope halyards. I had them install sheaves without the wire groove and ordered 3/8" line. I chose Samson Warpspeed for the primary jib (port side), XLS-Extra for the main and second jib. They work just fine and I can't detect any more stretch than the original halyards. David Epstein "SuperStar"
