I have a 1976 Cat22, the "Tomorrow Came", and she has had one of the bolts that holds her swing keel in, rust and the head sheared off. I have taken the "Easy Out" approach (that's a good one) and didn't manage to drill down the center of the bolt----needless to say, the option of using an easy out wouldn't work anymore ( the bolt has broken and shards of metal are sticking out of the bolt hole ). I have removed the other bolts, casing, and pin----I now am faced with getting the mass of metal out of the bolt hole before I replace it. Has anyone else gone through this ordeal?? Advise please.

Rusty Broken Shard of a Bolt, Come Hither

Thanks for your response Steve ----I used to live in Salt Lake---great place. I took the other 3 bolts off and the casing, pin, and bushings---to get a better hold on the bolt---but it broke---I then drilled down the center about 3/4 of the entire depth of the bolt and the easy outs won't work----that bolt is corroded and stuck up in there----I have been advised to drill right up to the end of the bolt and then keep going up in bit sizes until the bolt is 'disintigrated'. Any thoughts on this procedure??
