rusted swing keel winch

I have a catalina 22 that i recently launched and the winch has suddenly rusted through. I am going to put the boat back on the trailer to take the strain off the winch wire and will then be able to replace. the winch has lots of surface rust and i can't see any numbers on the winch. any info as to how to remove and replace the winch and what type of winch to replace it with would be appreciated. the catalina is a 1974 model with the pop top.

Paul; If the boat is in the water, pass a line under the keel, tie it off to the sheet winches to hold the keel up. Remove the cable from the keel winch and tie it off. Unbolt the winch, it's not too hard, and take the whole thing to a trailer supply store and match it up. Before installing it, spray it with a corrosion blocker and lube it. Reattach the cable, and away you go.

Paul:I just bought a C22 and the CatalinaDirect group will have the winch. They also have a catalog/handbook for $10 that everyone swears by, but I ordered mine during the update-reprint so have not received it.If you are going to do the winch, the keel pivot should also probably be looked at, if you keep the boat in the water I would gues it needs replacing. CD has a nice replacement/upgrade for that as well.I have done a lot of windsurfing (can't fit a 5 & 2 year old on the windsurfer) in LBI. Where do you sail out of?Paul
