New owner of a 2000 Beneteau 331. Don't know much about roller reefing of main.

Question 1
It seems that a small portion (2-3 inches) of the luff has come out of the track about 6-8 inches from the bottom. Is is only a question of dropping sails and rethreading into track?

Question 2
Any general directions for taking mainsail down for winter storage, maintenance and rehauling would be appreciated.

Simple fix

In answer to your first question: Yes. Lower the main a little and reinsert in the track and haul it up again. The tension must be fairly tight or it will bind.
As for your second question, I remove the main every two to three years (as needed) for restitching, cleaning and other necessary repairs such as replacing the tell tales. I have had the boat for eight years and have removed the main three times.

Furling main tack

Barry,
On the 2000 boats, there should be extrusion all the way down to the tack...and an opening about 15" above the track. With the sail hoisted (no wind) you should be able to disconnect the tack lift the tack up and thread the luff tape back into the extrusion and down. Do some finger exercises before hand!
**Also, before removing the shackle, take 4-5 paper towels and insert them into the mast cavity just below the tack shackle, all the way around. This way if you drop the pin or shackle or both...you'll be able to retrieve.

If you do NOT have the luff tape on the sail all the way to the tack or if you do not have the extrusion all the way to the tack, let me know, as I have a fix for this as well.
