Is there a way to add roller furling gear to my C22...I would like to sail singlehandedly (or at least with guests who have minimal knowledge). Any idea how much work is involved in adding this gear? Thanks!
... OVER your existing forestay. Cruising Designs (Flexible Furler), Harken and Hood both have such systems. Just remove the forestay, add the hardware and replace the whole shebang as system. As with most 'furlers' you can only reef down about 30% of the sail area and still have decent sail shape. Adding a foam luff will help.www.sailrite.com for the foam luff + the CDI for approx pricing, etc.
I have a 22 that I sail alone most of the time. My hoist lines for jenny and main both lead thru pullys back to the cockpit. This is a small enough boat that the sails go up easy. I think it's better than roller furling. Have fun. By the way is yours a swing keel of fixed. I'm trying to find others with a swing keel. Jack
