Hello,

Anyone successfully replaced the water tank on an S2 11.0A (1981).

Our original is aluminum. It is not leaking, but I am anticipating that the time will come based on age.

Thanks for any input!

i think mine has been replaced by another aluminium but i cannot say it for sure. if i had to do it again, i would certainly change the location... 80 gallons inside the foward peak is not a good choice. Sailboats doesnt like weight at the extremity. especialy if you had over that the chain and anchor ! perfect for banging into the wave on close winds !
two tanks on port an starboard under the salon seats would be the best for the balance.

Thanks for the reply Joul,

Something to think about, and sounds like good design advice!
Not sure it would be doable for us as a retrofit.

On our S2 we used one of the starboard compartments recently for the AC unit, so not sure water tank would fit in the other, smaller compartment.

JToben gave me some advice about installing inspection ports on each of the baffled sections of the aluminum tank. It is baffled into 4 sections, so there is not as much sloshing in the bow as there would be without that.

I'm replacing two water tanks and one fuel tank. There is a 50 gal under the stbd settee which I replaced last winter. It sprung a leak. I'm replacing a 32 gal under the aft dinette settee just fwd of the sink. Then replacing the fuel tank which is 50 gal under the quarter berth. The tanks were made in Florida and I can still order them which I'm going to do. They have placards on them with model numbers etc.. The place is out of business but a little i'net search will take ya to the new company that took it over. The holding tank is 40 gal under the V-berth. Hope that never leaks.....
