Gentlemen, I have had problems with my fuel tank and have only owned this boat for a couple of years. My confidence is low and i want to replace the fuel tank on a 1983 27ft hunter. I know its tough but i will cut out a panel to remove the old tank my question is where can i get an exact replacement tank? Regards

Try West Marine

I got an aluminum one there almost the same size. I added a fuel gage at the same time. I worked it out without having to cut anything, although mine is an earlier model 27. There was a lot of crud in the bottom of the old tank. I can see why fuel filters get clogged up in rough weather. Randy

Steam?

When I had my H28 fuel tank out, I took it to a radiator shop and had it steam cleaned. The plastic tank seemed to be in good enough condition to clean and reinstall. There was some stuff in the bottom, but not a lot. The steam cleaning removed that. At the same time, I also made a new neoprene gasket for the fuel gauge fitting on the top of the tank.

Curious, what problems?

My '79 Cherubini has the original tank. I am wondering what problems you are having and whether I need to anticipate those. About eight years ago I cut two 8" access holes, one on each side of the baffle. I pumped all the old fuel into a 55 gallon drum and gave it to the marina for the tractor. I was able to reach in and clean the tank which was not very dirty. There was a little gunk around the pickup tube. So I think my only worry should be that eventually it will leak as all aluminum things do. So your problems must be pretty severe if you need to remove the tank. Granted that a poly tank will ease your mind and last forever. But it will not solve dirty fuel problems.

Fuel Tank remove

I reomved the tank from my 84 27', it was not that bad of a job just remove the bulkhead from the 1/4 birth (screwed in place) and remove the tank from there.
