On Cal 39 refit
Bought a 1980 Cal 39-2 three years ago, and have had a lot of refitting to do. You can read through the boat's maintenance logs since 1992 at <http://cal39ii.blogspot.com>. I compiled the log from 1992-2003 from receipts for work left by the previous owners, and have maintained a detailed log ever since. This might give you a sense of the sorts of things to expect. We still have work to do -- the standing rigging is almost due for replacement, and we plan to pull the stick, replace the wire halyards, bring the main halyard back to the cockpit, and put in a two line reefing system. We're also considering new instrumentation, since the system we've got is no longer in production and replacement parts disappearing. If we do that, we'll probably go to a new networked system and add charting and radar.
