For the information of anyone who doesn't already know. Simrad has acquired
Navico. We used a Navico 2000 on Lyric and were very happy with it. We liked
it so much we just bought a reconditioned one as a spare.
They work well in a chop but following seas do tend to push the stern
around. We have a wind vane attachment for allowing it to adjust to apparent
wind but have not installed it yet.
We had an Auto Helm wheel pilot on another boat. When it broke down we sent
it in for repairs. Bad circuit board. They wanted half the price of a new
unit to replace it. Apelco, Raytheon and Auto Helm are all the same company.
When we needed service on the hand programer for the Navico (we were enroute
to Mexico at the time) Simrad had it back to us in just a few days and for a
very reasonable price. Caveat Emptor. Walt
