Epic voyages
The only 'epic voyages' I know of in a Hunter, besides those of Warren Luhrs in his racing 54s, were taken by a guy with a Hunter 25 in about 1976. He had a small diesel installed under the companionway steps (probably a Renault), there was a steering vane for singlehanded sailing, and for some reason he painted the Formica bulkheads inside a light blue or something. The story was he was taking off round the world– but we never heard from him again! You can derive whatever you want from that! [laugh]In any case if you have a well-cared-for deep-keel H-30 I don't see why with proper preparation you could not sail it anywhere. In the '70s MacGregor Yacht offered a $25,000 prize for the fastest time from California to Hawaii singlehanding a trailerable sailboat. The winner was a MacGregor-built Venture 21.It just goes to show you– prudence is key in all things seagoing.J Cherubini IIJComet@aol.com
