Greetings From out in the Marshall Islands, I am refitting a Ramus’ (1975) engine – the standard Volvo with a Yanmar. Cannot seem to find any way to connect the new 2inch hose onto the old exhaust thru hull which is 2 5/16. I don’t want to replace the thru hull if I can get away from it since the transom is already painted! Anyone have any ideas/sources? Thanks, Jon

Make a wooden plug that you can use as a mandril

for making a fiberglass and resin transition fitting from the hose to the thru-hull.

Consider a higher location

My Rasmus was repowered some years ago with a 4JH2E and they put the exhaust out the transom about a foot above the waterline. I think the logic is that the old exhaust, close to the waterline, is under water a lot of the time when motoring since the transom drops into the aft end of the bow wave. Being under water almost certainly adds to the resistance and incurs the possible risk of having water enter the exhaust system and flood the engine.
