We just purchased a 40 LRC this summer & find the mainsail is very difficult to raise even with the winch. Is this a common problem due to the numerous turns in the line bringing it back to the cockpit? Any suggestions for making this easier?

Raise the main

First thought is that you need to clean the track in the mast. Second is to check the sail slides and make sure none of them are badly worn, broken etc. Other than that, you might check all the rollers in the system, look for bad bearings, broken sheaves. And be sure to check and make sure none of them are too small for the halyard and pinching it. Can't think of anything else. I am sure that there is a problem. Raising the main shouldn't be that difficult. On my 37, I only use the winch for the last few feet, and to tighten.

Webbing

Calibur is a nice cruising boat, and an eye-pleaser as well. Firstly I will assume that you have loosened the mainsheet, have a claean track without any kinks thta can develope-I just changed a mast track on one of my boats, we kinked it when stepping the mast too. ON a large stick it is best to use webbing to connect your sail-slides to the smaller cringle-grommets on the luff. This lets the sail breathe while raising it and it is much safer to depower. If you have those little shackles change them for webbing, you can sew the webbing on or take it to a loft.

Thanks for the tips

Thanks for the tips on what to check - we had checked the track & that seemed fine - we were hoping that this wasn't a trait of Caliber and/or bringing the lines back to the cockpit as our last boat didn't have that. Will check the other items you suggested & hopefully that will solve it. Janice s/v Tsamaya Ithaca NY
