I wish to add a radar tower (pole) to my 40.5 and would like to see what other 40.5 owners have done. If you have any recommendations, I'd like to hear.

It is not boat specific but Garhauer is hard to beat for price, quality, and customer support. I have also had excellent luck with Tops-In-Quality for custom stainless.

My husband made our radar pole for the stern mounting. He used a combination of brackets, shrouds and some u-bolts to hold it in place. It has worked fine the last couple of seasons. The only thing I might do differently is to find some kind of strut that would give better stability than the shroud arrangement we have right now although the shrouds work pretty good. Here are some pictures.

Thanks for the replies

Nice pictures and info from all of you. Mine is going to be mounted a bit further aft, as I have a bimini that covers my martini seats. I'm leaning towards the Garhauer as they are local and seam to have some pretty good mounting options.

Rick: is yours custom?

Custom? Yes

Yes. Don't know who did it. The PO had it fabricated. H&S sold the boat both times, so I assume it was done in San Diego. It has a plywood backing plate in the wing locker through which it bolts. I'm sure Garhauer will have something nice, and if it is hinged, it will make it easier to run wires and work on the dome. However, it will also make the base a bit messy looking. I would urge you to get an antenna arch too. Makes mounting all the rest of the stuff in one place a bit more sanitary. Like AIS, WiFi, TV, GPS and cell antennas :D
Like I said, go by and take a look at it.
