Hi, My first post on this site, so please bear with me if I'm in the wrong forum! I have a 50% share in a marine business (chandlery, brokerage, repairs & maintenance) based at a yacht club in Western Australia. We've recently been appointed Hunter agents for WA, and I've just ordered a 33. Although it will be primarily a demo boat, I intend to continue racing around the buoys on the Swan River, and obviously I want to show it off to best advantage. My question is, are there any tips for getting best performance and controlling mast shape? I've never used the B&R rig or anything like it - I'm used to a masthead rig with a backstay and inner forestay on my current 32 footer. Presumably best performance will be from a suit of racing jibs, rather than the furling headsail. Any tips on the optimum number and percentages? I've ordered it with spinnaker gear. What's the best configuration? Will the rig support conventional spinnaker poles, or am I restricted to an asymmetric? If so, bowsprit or no bowsprit? Sorry for the long post and number of questions, but I'm starting from a zero base. All advice gratefully received!

B&R Rig

Peter.. We race a 356 here on the Chesapeake Bay with the B&R rig and no backstay. The biggest problem is Forestay tension. Glen Hendersons answer is to use Mainsheet inorder to tighten the forestay. It takes a lot. We have recently switched to Warpspeed for Halyards due to stretch from loading the Main up like this. I spoke with a rep at Selden and he recommended going o 25% on the shrouds especially on this design. A couple of upgrades we made to be competetive were: Profurl R35 furler (2 grooves, removable drum, thinner profile) Martek 2-Blade folding prop. Quantum 129% Kevlar headsail. Awlgrip Awlstar ablative bottom paint. Longer boom (10") and larger full batten main. Carbon Rat Battens. Seleden has a good tuning guide for the B&R rig, and the info in the owners manual was helpful too. Good luck!
