All, I am considering putting some quick release pins on my boat for the rigging. I noticed in the photo forum that there is a post with the lengths listed for each of the pins. My question is: how critical is the length? As long as the pin is long enough to go through the connection, does it matter if there is excess pin on the ohter side? The reason I ask is that ebay has some lited that are about 1/2 the price of West marine, but the are also a bit too long. Tim

pins

They will work. The excess length may have a tendency to snag lines or clothing, which could be aggravating at the least or a safety hazard.

I agree

Like Steve O. mine are a little longer but work fine. QR pins are great for us who have had to put our glasses on to get the rings in the pins and a lot faster.

Tono, According to a link in the photo forum the sizes for the Hunter 170 are: Shrouds: dia: 1/4" X 3/4" long Boom: dia: 1/4" X 1 1/4" long head stay (furler) dia: 1/4" X 1" long.
