When raising the mainsail the sail continues to get caught on the flap where the sail enters the track on the mast. Has anyone found a solution the works. I'm using a clip and the flap is closed as tight as I can get it. I'm at the point that I am considering tape. Any help out there?

I have a

similar problem with my 1978 P30. I have a full batten main and the slugs at the battens always hang up. I've tried rounding the corners, even smoothed the opening in the sail track near the gate with a dremel. Not much help. A couple of sailmakers I've talked to think that possibly adding bat cars would help, and I may do that when I have new sails made next year. It's a real nuisance when single handing.

Mainsail sticks on track

Im not sure if I understand exactly what your problem is. But what I think it is, is that the slides stick in the spot where the little hinged door that opens to insert the slides into the track. Most pearsons have this little door on the mast track that is kept closed by a cotter pin to keep the slides in the track. But: the door when closed with the cotter pin dosent fit snugly enough against the mast when closed. and it jiggles back and forth When raising or lowering the Main. The weight of the slides especially on full length battens tend to move aft against the door and push it back away from the track causing the sail to stick at that point. If this is in fact the problem Heres the solution: Its very simple First get rid of the cotter pin. Than Drill 2 small holes in the door top and bottom at the point where it closes against the track. so a 1/4" machine screw will slide into the hole without forcing it Than get a 1/4" tap and tap through the holes in the door. Screw the machine screws into the tapped holes snugly. Now the door will no longer move back and forth along the track and the sail should go up and down without sticking. It worked for me.
