HI,we went to the NY Boat Show and bought an early Xmas gift for ourselves, A Lewmar Powewr winch to replace our primary #40 on our 1997 340 Hunter. The #40 Lewmar sits on the starboard sie of the cabin trunk, above the aft worner of the head. There appears to be an access panel (about 7 by 7 inches square that houses a ceiling light. Anyone have any experience in installing one of these (removing old one, getting thru and hooking up to the breaker panel, reinforcing the base of the new winch etc. etc.). Lewmar seems to have given us what we need as far as wiring, breaker-switch etc. bu I dont see any reinorcing plates to support the winch and the motor. We would appreciate any advice, before we tackle this in the apring. Thanks, Jacki and Oley Olsen "JackiO"

Have done it on a 40.5

I put in a Lewmar OP-2 electric winch. It is no longer made, but it installed well. It used an in-line motor instead of the 90-degree motor drive. Hunter made a custom panel to cover the motor below for some models, I don't know if the 340 is one of them. I didn't reinforce the base for the new winch, and it may not be necessary since you are mounting a similiar item. Email me if you need further info or wish to chat on the phone about the details of installation. Rich
