I'm currently in the process of replacing the forward portlights on my O'25 and thought I'd relay this bit of info. After removing the original Beckon Rain Drain units, I was surprised to find plywood between the liner and the doghouse. I was even more surprised to find out how 'thin' the doghouse really is. Although my portlights were not leaking (just deteriorated), I can see how a leak here could be extremely destructive. If the doghouse is in fact 'cored', any leak here would rot the core very quickly. I was also dissapointed the space between the liner and doghouse was not 'filled' with either a caulk or epoxy. A leak at the portlight could travel quite a distance and you would never know it is the portlight that is leaking! Filling this void is something I will definitely do when I install the new lites. I believe the Becksons were used as the forward portlights on quite a number of O'Days.I don't know how many of you have actually replaced these portlights, but it is actually very easy. The only problem is that it is almost impossible to remove the plastic trim ring without breaking it. However, if you can get a new one from Beckson, or fabricate new ones from teak, it may be worth checking. I might also mention you really don't need to remove the trim ring to remove the portlight. All you really need to do is remove the interior screws, use a scraper or caulking knife (or even a sharp kitchen knife) to cut the caulk, and the lite pulls out from inside the boat with the trim ring left in place.RussP.S. Someone on ebay is selling Lewmar Standard Series portlights, Size 7 ovals, for $99 ($129 buy it now). That's where I got my new ones. Very nice portlights. She apparently has quite a number of them if anyone is interested. They were [accidently] misrepresented as Ocean series lites. If I remember correctly, she's selling them from somewhere in Texas along with a bunch of Lewmar hatches.
