Port Light in V-Berth on 1985 26'

Just curious if anybody has added a port light in their V-Berth. I could swear I saw somebody on here have a photo showing where they installed it but maybe, just maybe it was below the rub rail (not sure how that would be done with the hull at that point single layer unlike above with the dual layer and wood in-between).

Just thinking of a way to make the V-Berth brighter and less claustrophobic. Not for me but for my kids and/or wife. I can sleep and nap anywhere!

If it is interior lighting that you need find an adequate LED fixture and figure out how to wire it to your electrical panel. If you need to attach it to the interior hull you can glue a block of wood to the glass and fasten the fixture to it.

I did change all my lights to LED this summer when I replaced all the wiring including the gang panel. I installed dual LED fixtures throughout but my wife just asked me if I could add a port light and I said I don't think so but thought I would ask. I just told the wife she will have to sleep elsewhere if needed like the cockpit (plenty of natural light there). :)

Made me chuckle. I find the hatch in the V-Berth lets in plenty of light. I can't sleep anywhere where there is light.

My 26 has a light just forward of the bulkhead on the starboard side, just entering the "V" berth. Regardless, if you don't want to rewire things, you can buy the portable LED stick up type lights. If it was a live aboard I'd hard wire new lights to the 12 volt but for limited time spent for an overnight once in a while they will work fine, use rechargeable batteries . Buy them, stick them where you want and be done.

Ya I told my wife to deal with it. I have already replaced all wiring, gang panels and installed dual LED lights assemblies in the V-berth, galley, head area, over the table and a single one in the wine cellar (I call the area below the cockpit this). I haven;t finished making the last final connections (winter in Michigan still) so my wife won;t know just how bright it is until that happens. Happy wife=happy life!

Well there you go! Hopefully she will be pleasantly surprised. I on the other hand, have quite a light sensitivity. Love my shades. I don't mind task lighting for projects, but overall being in bright light without my shades is impossible. If you notice her wearing shades more frequently in the boat, think of me! LOL You are an angel for all you are doing to solve this for her, my husband is the same way; yep, "Happy wife=happy life!"

I am one who likes well lit rooms (boats) when I need it but otherwise, I like dim lighting such as a reading light which I threw in one of those as well on the starboard bulkhead shining onto the settee. I need just enough light not to spill my drink of choice the Kama Kazi.
