A person in town is wanting to sell a Javelin. It is hull #3029 and class #2412. (I couldn't find a 12-digit HIN number anything like what is on my O'27, so I assume it was built before 1972, but this info is on a metal plate inside the cockpit at the center of the stern.) It is on the trailer which looks in good shape. There are a few small dings (most less than 1" diameter). The forestay is shot. They say they have the title. It measures 14' from stem to stern. How can we determine the year and can anyone suggest a fair asking price? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks Jim

Javelins

Up here (Maine) Javelins sell for about ~500 to 750 depending on condition. The trailer would add maybe another 150 dollars. The short answer is that the boat is worth what you're willing to buy it for, but I would probably not go much north of $600. I bought a 1982 Daysailer - bigger boat - with trailer, new sails, assorted junk for $550 three years ago. Deals are out there. If you have the time to keep looking, make and offer you can live with and stick to it. If you want to go sailing now, you'll pay a premium but anything south of $750 is probably fair. More than that and I'd look around. Justin - O'day Owners' Web

Bought one just like what you're describing for $500 -- I think I got a pretty good deal (from a friend), my sense was that it might have been worth up to $750.
