I was always around sailboats when I was younger and even sailed in a few regattas but then grew up a bit, got a job and moved to Charlotte NC for 3 years. Realized that I had to get back to the coast and could not see myself working a job in a landlocked area for an extended amount of time so I came back to the Lowcountry.. Anywho enough with the life story, I went down to Richmond Hill Ga last week and picked up my new 8.0a and cruised it back to Beaufort, SC to sit for a week until I can get down there this coming weekend to move it up to Charleston. My boat is dirty and definitely needs some love but for the deal I got her for, I can't complain. She came with 4 sails(2 mains, 2 jibs), autohelm, front hatch A/C unit, and a working ice box! There's still a few wiring quirks to work out as I have no running lights, no freshwater pump, need to chase some wires on the 110 system, and a few of my cabin lights don't work.
I ran the ditch the entire way with less than stellar weather on 2 of the 3 days. Finally got the sails up on the 3rd day while coming off the Broad River into the Port Royal Sound. I'm looking forward to some good weather this weekend to bring her up to her new home in the Charleston Harbor.
I've included some pictures from this past weekend. Hope everyone likes!

Congrats on the boat! Thanks for sharing the photos. Look forward to more as you get the boat cleaned up and sailing more.

recently did the same with a 9.2c. Brought her from NC up to NJ. Had a bigger crew though!

for the running lights, take them apart and brush them off. The lightbulbs and contacts are probably corroded. Clean them off with a wire brush.

also, our breaker switches were in bad shape. Try to flip the switch on JUST past where it won't flip back. When we got her, 80% of the switches would only work that way.

congrats on the new boat!

Welcome!

Congrats on your prolonged maiden voyage. People often post questions about whether or not such a voyage...or whether or not they can circumnavigate on a sunfish or a Hinckley. The answer is always the same...it depends...on them, not the boat. Glad you had fun and made it safe. Beautiful photo of you at the end with the sun setting (rising?).

Thanks guys.
Unfortunately with the running lights one of the previous owners cut the wires, along with my mast lights(used jib halyard and a LED lantern when I was at anchor) so I've got some work ahead of me in that department. It has 2 new switchboards(12v has no nameplates for the toggle switches) connected to a spiderweb of wires down below, so I really just need to get my tester out and chase some wires. Haven't used the head yet, but I'm praying it is in working order, it has GA USCG inspection sticker up to date and paperwork, the previous owner said he had never used it but then included a toilet rebuild kit.
The the last picture with the sun behind me, was taken in Beaufort when I pulled up to my parents dock at sunset. Could not have asked for better weather that day. The first 2 days the weather was in the mid 50s and cloudy, Saturday was 74 and sunny!

I'm having her bottom scraped on thursday so maybe I can actually carry some speed on my trip to Charleston :D

Will update everyone once I make this trip. I'm sure I will take some good pictures this time, as I find South Carolinas waters much nicer than Georgia's, not to mention I will actually have some company traveling with me.

Congratulations and all the best on the rest of your voyage. I actually have my camping lantern ready for the same thing. :)
