I just found out that I have to drop my personal umbrella policy (providing extended liability coverage for my apartment, auto and boat to $1,000,000) because I am selling my apt. and living on board for about year. The reason given to me by the company was that I needed a permanent land address. Does anyone know of an insurance carrier that will provide an extended liability personal umbrella (for boat and auto only) to a liveaboard? Thanks.

Try State Farm

G, As you know umbrella policies require you have "underlying" coverage to qualify. That means besides your auto and boat liability you need "premises & personal" liability. This is provided thru your homeowners coverage. Since you no longer own a land based home you lost this coverage. In Virginia State Farm offers a policy to cover what you need. It's called a Premises/Personal Liability Policy. The cost is $40 per year and it offers $100K of coverage. This satisfies the underlying requirement for the umbrella policy. Don't know if this policy is available in Florida from State Farm. Good luck.
