I have a 1986 MacGregor 25. I am not happy with the outboard motor bracket. I have a 6hp Chrysler 2 Cycle Motor. I have to remove the rudder to operate the motor or the rudder can swing and hit the prop. The motor bracket is too short and I can't lower the steering handle of the motor all the way (it hits the Stern) Does anyone have recommendations for a mounting bracket and position of the bracket that works well? Can you run the motor and steer with the rudder?

Running engine with rudder on

Having repaired the rudder on my 25 4 times now, I feel that a propeller guard is probably the best answer, however for now I just lash the rudder in the neutral position with it up and steer with the motor. I might add that I've added carbon fiber to the repairs and seems to be more durable than the original fiberglass
