Took my Boss for a sail yesterday. Brilliant guy...but it was a bit like having a four year old aboard. He was interested and hadn't sailed in 30 years so he kept interrupting me with questions. Really bad timing when he did it just when we had turned up into the wind to pick up the mooring. I usually line her up, get enough way on and then lock the wheel and dash forward to grab the pick up stick.
To be fair, I learned a lesson in that I didn't drop the main...something I have sometimes done...just let it flap...but the wind was coming right over a low area in the land and was gusting quite strong in the mooring field...atypical to just outside of it. Next time the wind is from that direction I hope I remember to drop the main outside the field. Anyhow...my dash forward required fine timing and he interrupted me just as I was going to go...and I stopped as I began to step onto the port seat...and the boom glanced off my head about two inches above my temple. Ouch.
