Well, after 4 weeks of not sailing for one reason or another my wife and I sailed out of Ventura Calif. Saturday. What a great day to sail, cool temps at about 75 degrees,( 104 degrees at home) mild wind 10 -15 mph with clear skies, some choppy conditions, no white caps and the swells were about 3 feet. we sailed up and down the cost line for about 3 hours with several other sail boats enjoying the day as well. I used my single line reefing system which work great. Came back into the Ventura Marina under gib alone and tied up at the boating launch ramp. pulled "shoot n' the Breeze" out of the water, derigged and had an early dinner at an Italin resturant and came home. HAPPY HAPPY !

Sounds dreamlike!

Hey Glenn...I've found that when I try to sail with jib alone, I get terrible lee helm...with sail only forward of the centerline, it just wants to fall off. Were you sailing downwind? Cheers.

Down wind

yes, I was lucky enough that the wind was blowing right back into the marina, all the way to the launch ramp. this was the first time I ever tried this, I've seen others doing this. I did not notice any lee helm. to lower the main we just dropped the main and left the jib all the way out, when we got close to the docks we fureled the gib and glidde right in. Usually I will come around into the wind to dock up, spilling my sails, this puts me on the leeward side of the docks and keeps the boat away from the docks itself. by going straight in to the docks we had to keep her off the dock, even with the fenders on so she does get scuffed up. I havent had any problem with lee helm to speak of. I did once while sailing reefed the boat just didnt want to respond properly, alot of lee helm. Ive since adjust my shroud lines, BIG DIFFERENCE in boat performance and handling, thanks to Danny Hartzell

Hello from Germany

Hello from Germany where I am on Vacation. Thought you might be interested in a great sailing lake we visited where the winds are steady most of the summer, 10-12 knts, no chop and there are hundreds of sail boats and not a single motor boat. Its beautiful. Perfect for the 170 I just sold or the 23 I just bought. Hope to be back in the states next week and on the water soon after that. Hello to Glen from the Hunter Day Sailors Assoc. of So. CA. having a great time. Sorry I missed your sail on Sat. Brian

Hi Brian, Sounds like your having a good time. to bad you didnt take the club burgee with you and hitched a ride on some ones boat and hoisted our burgee, it would have been the longest distance the burgee has travel representing the club ! Under sail in Germany

Brian - sounds wunderbar!!! But please ell us - which lake? Or are you keeping it a secret so the rest of us don't spoil it! I lived in Germany for 3 years, though did not sail while there. Lake Constance was our favorite vacation lake. There are power boats and tons of ferries, but it's huge, and there are tons of sailboats. Gute Urlaube!
